Inspired by the buzz around COP26, Tann Westlake has made a pledge via the SME Climate Hub to join the race to net zero.
Scientists are clear that we must halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions no later than 2050 to avert the worst implications from climate breakdown. Every business, no matter the size, has a role to play in the race to net zero. But it’s not just about doing the right thing, it’s good business. We believe by committing to making our company more sustainable, we will meet the expectations of our clients, be more innovative and navigate a successful path through the challenging times ahead.
That’s why we’ve joined thousands of other small- and medium-sized businesses in making the SME Climate Commitment to reduce carbon emissions in line with the target set out in the Paris Agreement (not exceeding global heating by more than 1.5ºC compared to pre-industrial temperatures).
The SME Climate Commitment
Recognising that climate change poses a threat to the economy, nature and society-at-large, our company commits to take action immediately in order to:
- Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030
- Achieve net-zero emissions before 2050
- Disclose our progress on a yearly basis
In doing so, we are proud to be recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and join governments, businesses, cities, regions, and universities around the world that share the same mission.
Next Steps
Next year we’ll be deepening our commitment by publicly pledging our carbon reduction targets. These targets will include each of the three scopes by which carbon emissions are measured:
- Scope 1 emissions – those emissions from any owned or controlled sources.
- Scope 2 emissions – the generation of purchased energy, e.g. electricity.
- Scope 3 emissions – all other emissions that occur in the supply chain.
We’ll keep you updated as we embark on our carbon reduction journey, so look out for more updates in the coming months. If you’re a small- or medium-sized business and want to join us in making a climate commitment head to the SME Climate Hub where you can access tools and resources to help measure your emissions, make your commitment and develop your climate strategy.
