Google have just announced the start of a parent company they’re calling Alphabet, for more than one reason, one being that “ it means a collection of letters that represent language, one of humanity’s most important innovations, and is the core of how we index with Google search” and the other that is Alpha-bet, meaning an investment return above benchmark.
This new company is amongst many changes they are taking to expand their business, just recently they announced that they were slimming down the Google experience, including Google Plus. As well as exporting features from the Google Plus network, such as Photos, so people can access these still, but in the form of an app. They’ve stated that they still are aiming to invest and create things that are a little out of the ordinary and ‘strange’, that stays true to the Google brand.
It has been created to make a simpler structure of the many businesses that fall under the Google umbrella, as stated by founder Larry Page. They will also split businesses between the two, for example Google search, apps, YouTube and Android will all be under the Google name. The newer entities will be under Alphabet’s management such as the research division Google X, the smart-home unit Nest, and investment divisions.
We’re very excited to see how these changes will improve the online experience on Google, as well as what Alphabet has to offer as a parent company, and how it’ll effect the brand as a whole.
